School entry test for grade 2
To enrol a foreign child in grade 2, the school tests their knowledge of Russian. A test paper has 11 tasks: 4 tasks spoken and 7 tasks written. The maximum is 20 points, and the test counts as passed from 18 points.
The number that matters on this page is 9 out of 10. The speaking part is worth 10 points, and at least 9 points must come from it: the written part cannot make this minimum up. In other words, the child can afford one mistake aloud.
Here you can say all 4 speaking tasks out loud and record the answer: the machine transcribes what it heard and shows what came through and what the child missed. This is trainer feedback, not a commission's mark. Free, no sign-up.
What is known for certain
The speaking part of grade 2 — 4 tasks and 10 points:
- task 1 — taking part in a dialogue, 3 points;
- task 2 — a monologue, 2 points;
- task 3 — reading aloud, 3 points;
- task 4 — reading comprehension, 2 points;
The whole speaking part takes about 15 minutes per child, the written part runs for 30 minutes and is worth 10 points.
The numbers come from the FIPI specification of diagnostic materials for this grade, and the minimum mark is set by Rosobrnadzor — not from retellings or news reports.

Осенью дни становятся короче, а ночи длиннее. Листья на деревьях желтеют и падают на землю. Птицы собираются в стаи и улетают на юг. Часто идёт холодный дождь, и люди берут зонты. В лесу в это время много грибов.

Multiple-choice tasks are checked by the page. Copying is compared with the text letter by letter; for the essay and the summary the length, the repetitions and the borrowings are counted. Meaning and how well the topic is covered are not judged by the machine, and it gives nobody a score: the score is set by the school panel.
How this is checked
What the feedback does. It compares the transcript of the answer with what the task asks for, and in reading aloud it counts how many words of the text came through. Two honest caveats follow. First: the machine hears words, not meaning. The child may have said the same thing in other words — the feedback may not count the point, which is why the transcript is always next to it: you can see what the machine actually heard. Second: this is not how the test mark is given. At the test the child answers a live commission, which judges pronunciation, coherence and whether the child can be understood at all. We do not give marks and do not promise enrolment — we show what came through. The recording is not stored anywhere: only the audio goes to the server for recognition, the text of the answer is computed by the browser itself, and there is nowhere to keep it.

Frequently asked questions
How many points are needed to pass the grade 2 test?
18 out of 20 for the whole test, and at the same time at least 9 points for the speaking part. If the total is reached but the speaking part is failed, the test is not passed.
How many speaking tasks are there and what are they?
4 tasks: taking part in a dialogue, a monologue, reading aloud, reading comprehension. All 4 are on this page — you can say them aloud and record the answer.
How long does the test take?
The speaking part takes 15 minutes per child, the written part 30 minutes. The parts may be held in either order: the school decides.
What happens if the child does not pass?
The test can be retaken no earlier than three months later. That is exactly the time people prepare in — details.
The tasks on the site are in Russian, and the child reads Russian poorly.
The tasks stay in Russian deliberately: at the test they are given in Russian. The native language is for the parent — that is why the feedback, not a translation of the task, sits next to them.
The numbers are checked against the grade 2 specification. Tasks in the bank: speaking — 8, written — 7.
