Russian history: questions for the patent exam

This page covers Russian history only — one of the three modules of the patent exam. The exam itself has five history questions; here you get our whole bank — forty-five, nine full sets, so the same ones do not come round every time you practise.

You are not asked to know a history course, but a list of facts from the official codifier: dates, state symbols, major cities, public holidays and names. The list is short and closed — which is exactly why history is easier to pass than language, once you know what to learn.

The tasks themselves stay in Russian — that is how they sound in the exam. The explanations of your mistakes are in your language.

Correct: of 45

Under every wrong option there is an explanation of that particular mistake. People do not go wrong at random here: 1812 and 1941 get mixed up because both wars are called Patriotic, and 12 June and 4 November because both holidays are about the state.

Where to go next

The other modules are on the «Questions and test for the patent exam» page: the whole exam, twenty-two tasks.

Everything about the exam — thresholds, documents, retakes — is on the «Patent exam» page.

Frequently asked questions

How many history questions are there in the patent exam?

Five out of twenty-two. There is no separate threshold for history, but the overall pass mark is half, and losing points on history costs the most: it is the most predictable module.

What exactly do I need to know?

The list is set by the Rosobrnadzor codifier: state symbols, the name and capital of the state, major cities, public holidays and key dates. Nothing beyond that list is asked.

Do I have to learn the dates by heart?

Yes, but there are not many. People more often get the event wrong rather than the date: the founding of the USSR gets confused with its collapse.
