Reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar

  1. Прочитайте: «Copy паспорта заверяется нотариально». Что нужно сделать с копией?

    Listen

“Notarised” means taking the original and the copy to a notary, who compares them and adds a signature and seal. A foreign passport usually needs a notarised translation: the translator translates and the notary certifies the translator's signature — two services, done in one visit.

  2. Прочитайте: «Договор вступает в силу с момента подписания и действует до полного исполнения сторонами своих обязательств». Когда договор начинает действовать?

    Listen

“From the moment of signing” means immediately, as soon as both parties sign. It is the commonest wording, and there is no separate start date: it coincides with the signing.

  3. Прочитайте: «Работодатель обязан уведомить территориальный орган МВД о заключении трудового договора с иностранным гражданином в течение трёх рабочих дней». Кто подаёт уведомление?

    Listen

The employer files the notification of a contract within three working days. It is a separate duty, unrelated to migration registration, where the host party files the arrival notice.

  4. Прочитайте: «Претензия рассматривается в течение десяти дней. При отсутствии ответа потребитель вправе обратиться в суд». Что делать, если ответа нет через две недели?

    Listen

A written claim is a mandatory step before court in many disputes. The reply period runs from receipt; once it passes without an answer, the way to court is open.

  5. Прочитайте объявление: «Требуется водитель категории C. Опыт от трёх лет. Оформление по ТК РФ». Что означает последняя фраза?

    Listen

“Employment under the Labour Code” in a job ad promises formal hiring: a contract, leave, sick pay, contributions. Check it on day one against your copy of the contract.

  6. Прочитайте: «Пособие назначается со дня обращения, но не ранее дня возникновения права на него». Вы получили право 1 марта, а обратились 1 июня. С какого дня назначат пособие?

    Listen

The rule is simple and costly: money is counted from the day you apply. Delay the application and you lose months even if the right existed. Hence you claim benefits at once.

  7. Прочитайте: «Копия документа принимается при предъявлении оригинала либо в нотариально заверенной форме». Сколько есть способов подать копию?

    Listen

“Либо” offers a choice of two: bring the copy together with the original, or have it notarised in advance. The second costs more but keeps the original with you.

  8. В бланке есть графа «Подпись расшифровка подписи». Что писать во второй части?

    Listen

The decoding of a signature is the surname and initials written legibly: “Rakhimov A. K.”. It exists so the paper shows who actually signed. Leaving this box empty is one of the commonest reasons documents are handed back.

  9. Вам отказали в услуге, и вы пишете жалобу. С чего её начать?

    Listen

A complaint that gets considered is simple: facts by date, which of your rights was breached, and what you are asking for. State everything checkable precisely and leave out the judgements. At the end ask for a written reply — it starts a deadline and opens the way to appeal.

  10. Выберите слово по смыслу: «Официальная бумага, которой государственный орган отвечает на заявление, — это ___».

    Listen

Four words that mean different things in documents: an application is you asking, a notification is them telling you a decision, an announcement addresses everyone, a certificate confirms a fact at your request. A notification is always addressed to you by name, and appeal deadlines run from its date.

  11. Выберите правильный вариант: «Заявление было ___ вчера».

    Listen

Passive forms agree in gender and number with the subject: заявление подано, жалоба подана, документ подан. Such constructions are the language of official papers and are tested regularly at this level.

  12. Выберите правильный вариант: «Он живёт в России ___ пяти лет».

    Listen

«В течение» is a preposition, always spelled with -е and taking the genitive: for a month, for five years. The form with -и exists but means a river's current. Native speakers get this pair wrong, which is why it reaches the exam.

  13. Выберите правильный вариант: «Несмотря ___ дождь, приём состоялся».

    Listen

«Несмотря на» is a concessive preposition: it introduces what stood in the way but did not prevent the outcome. A noun in the accusative follows. Before a full clause the form becomes «несмотря на то, что». It is always written as one word.

  14. Выберите слово по смыслу: «Человек, который переводит документы и чью подпись удостоверяет нотариус, — это ___».

    Listen

A notarised translation involves two people: the translator translates and signs, the notary certifies that the signature is genuine. The notary does not check the quality of the translation — only who produced it. So choose a translator with proven qualifications.

  15. Выберите правильный вариант: «Я благодарен ___ за помощь».

    Listen

The short adjective «благодарен» governs the dative: благодарен вам. Nearby sit similar words with different government: «спасибо вам» (dative) but «благодарю вас» (accusative) — one is a verb, the other an adjective.

Russian history

  1. В каком году был подписан договор о принятии Республики Крым и города Севастополя в состав России?

    Listen

The treaty was signed on 18 March 2014; the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol joined Russia. The event is in the exam codifier and the date is asked. Do not confuse it with 2022: different events, different territories.

  2. Кто такой Александр Сергеевич Пушкин?

    Listen

Alexander Pushkin was a poet and writer regarded as the founder of the modern Russian literary language. The codifier lists thirteen names in four groups: literature (Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Mikhalkov), science and technology (Lomonosov, Mendeleev, Popov, Kurchatov, Korolev, Kalashnikov), music (Glinka, Tchaikovsky) and space (Gagarin). Learn them by group, not as a list.

  3. Чем известен Дмитрий Иванович Менделеев?

    Listen

Dmitry Mendeleev created the periodic table of the chemical elements, the chart that hangs in every school chemistry room. Each scientist in the codifier group has his own discovery: Lomonosov founded Moscow University, Mendeleev the table, Popov radio, Kurchatov atomic physics, Korolev the rockets, Kalashnikov the rifle.

  4. Лев Николаевич Толстой — автор романа:

    Listen

Lev Tolstoy wrote War and Peace, set during the Patriotic War of 1812. The three writers in the codifier attach to their books: Pushkin to Eugene Onegin, Tolstoy to War and Peace, Dostoevsky to Crime and Punishment. Sergei Mikhalkov is on the same list as the author of the words of the national anthem.

  5. Юрий Алексеевич Гагарин известен тем, что:

    Listen

On 12 April 1961 Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space. In the codifier list he stands next to Sergei Korolev, the designer who built the rockets but never flew. It is a common pairing in the exam: one built, the other flew.

  6. Кто написал слова государственного гимна Российской Федерации?

    Listen

The words of the national anthem were written by Sergei Mikhalkov and the music by Alexander Alexandrov. The anthem is one of the three state symbols alongside the flag and coat of arms, so a question about it may come from either the symbols section or the names section.

  7. Михаил Тимофеевич Калашников известен как:

    Listen

Mikhail Kalashnikov was a small-arms designer and creator of the rifle that bears his name. He closes the list of names in the codifier. The easiest way to learn them is in pairs of name and achievement: Kurchatov and the atom, Korolev and the rocket, Kalashnikov and the rifle, Popov and radio.

Fundamentals of law

  1. По какому основанию вид на жительство может быть аннулирован?

    Listen

The grounds for cancelling a permanent residence permit are listed in law, and the first is giving knowingly false information when obtaining it. Hence the simplest and most valuable rule: put the truth on the papers. A lie surfaces years later, and the whole road travelled — temporary permit, permanent permit and time — goes with it.

  2. Чем вид на жительство отличается от разрешения на временное проживание?

    Listen

A temporary residence permit is issued for a fixed period and ties you to a region; a permanent permit is valid nationwide, allows work without a patent and does not restrict occupation. It is the second of three steps — temporary, permanent, citizenship — each with its own exam and thresholds.

  3. Какие документы иностранному гражданину стоит иметь при себе для подтверждения законности пребывания?

    Listen

Carry your passport and the document proving your status — a permanent or temporary residence permit. The set is simpler for a permanent resident than for someone working on a patent, where the passport is joined by the migration card, the registration stub and the patent with its payment receipts.

  4. Может ли иностранный гражданин обжаловать решение об аннулировании его статуса?

    Listen

A decision cancelling your status, like other decisions of state bodies, can be appealed in court. The right to judicial protection belongs to everyone and does not depend on citizenship. The practical consequence: on receiving a refusal or a cancellation notice, do not simply leave — appeal periods are limited, and the decision itself states them.

  5. Работник и работодатель заключили трудовой договор. Сколько экземпляров должно быть?

    Listen

An employment contract is made in writing in two copies: one stays with the employer, the other is given to the worker. That second copy is the only thing that will later prove the terms and the pay to a labour inspectorate or a court. Take it on your first day.

  6. Кто, согласно Конституции, является носителем суверенитета и единственным источником власти в России?

    Listen

The Constitution names the multi-ethnic people of the Russian Federation as the bearer of sovereignty and the sole source of power. The word “multi-ethnic” is not decorative: it means the peoples of the country are equal, and the ban on discrimination by ethnicity, language or religion rests on it.

Already taken the exam?

Press one button. We do not ask for a name, a score or a phone number — we only add one to the count of those who passed or failed. This shows whether the trainer predicts the real result.

What follows from this

Three sections are complete: listening six tasks, history seven, law six — exactly as many as the exam has. Nineteen out of thirty-eight.

The rest is not here yet, and we say so plainly rather than calling nineteen tasks a full test:

  • speaking — four tasks, which only an analysis of spoken language can check. That is the one thing in Sinov that will be paid for.

On thresholds, the main point: speaking has its own mandatory threshold — four points out of six — and a good total will not save you. Level three is the largest: more tasks than the temporary permit exam, in the same time.

Where to go next

Need just one module? Two of them have their own pages:

  • Russian history — 20 tasks instead of seven, including the “names of eminent figures” section absent from the other levels;
  • Basics of law — 18 instead of six.

The composition of the exam, the points, the section thresholds and the time are on the page Exam for a residence permit.

Tasks for the other levels — patent and temporary residence permit.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the real exam questions?

The listening section is: it is the official Rosobrnadzor demonstration paper — both the recording and the questions — and the source is named under the tasks. History and law were written by us from the specification and the codifier. The explanations of mistakes are ours throughout.

How many history and law questions are on the exam?

Seven and six out of thirty-eight. Both sections carry a mandatory threshold of at least three points each.

How does this exam differ from the temporary permit exam?

More tasks — 38 against 34, a maximum of 42 points against 38, a pass mark of 21 against 19. The time is the same, 90 minutes. The oral part here has four tasks instead of three.

The tasks are in Russian and I read Russian poorly. What should I do?

The tasks stay in Russian on purpose: that is how they sound in the exam. The explanation of a mistake, however, opens in your language — the switcher is at the foot of the page.

The composition of the sections was checked on 8 September 2026 against the Rosobrnadzor specification for level 3.
